Maria Cuji London explores wearable art through the relationship between the body, material and sculpture.

Dancing with the Seeds
An ongoing exploration of natural fibres, seeds and inherited knowledge, developed through making and collaboration with skilled makers in Ecuador.
Dancing with the Seeds began as a piece created for performance. Seeds held within the garment respond to the movement of the body, creating their own sound as the performer moves.
The wider project follows materials from their origin — how they are grown, gathered, transformed and carried forward through generations.

From Rubbish to Lavish looks at what we throw away.
Handwoven materials take many hours to make. When they are cut and shaped, the leftover pieces are often discarded.
The project gives these remnants a new form, respecting the material, the maker’s time and the craftsmanship behind it.
