Maria Cuji is an Ecuadorian-born, London-based designer working across wearable art, garments and experimental materials.
Making has been part of her life from an early age. Her mother worked in pattern cutting and garment construction, overseeing the makers, while her aunt was an embroiderer. She grew up surrounded by fabric, pattern, construction and the making of clothes.
A graduate of BA Textile Design and MA Biodesign at Central Saint Martins, where she also works as a Visiting Practitioner, Maria approaches clothing as a form of art. Her practice moves between silhouette, body and material, preserving specialist craftsmanship while allowing materials to take new forms.
